A Study on Comparative Analysis of the 14th and 15th Haryana Assembly Elections

The recently concluded Haryana elections shed light on the dominance of dynasties and wealth in the state's politics. Our latest report offers a quantifiable assessment of this trend through a comparative analysis of the new and previous assembly.

Key Findings

  • Dynastic MLAs increased from 23.3% in the 14th Assembly to 35.6% in the 15th Assembly, marking a 12.3% rise.

  • 12/19 for BJP and 16/33 for INC, Dynastic representatives had a higher success rate in securing tickets and winning elections.

  • MLAs with assets > ₹5 crores increased from 45.6% to 75.6%.

  • The percentage of MLAs with criminal cases remained stable at 13%, while those with serious criminal charges slightly decreased from 8% to 7%

  • While entry from local politics increased by 7.8%, but, entry through party organizational politics decreased by 3.5%.
